Grow with the RO: Mentoring Program

For over two years the RO has run a successful mentoring program. A call for participants and application process occurs each fall. The RO management team then pairs mentor and mentees and provides resources to start the conversation.

A New Approach to Mentorship

This year, we’re consolidating our program into one dynamic mentoring experience. Gone is the term “new buddy program,” but the spirit of fostering meaningful connections remains intact. Mentees can still benefit from mentorship focusing on onboarding and cultivating our unique company culture. Our goal is to ensure every staff member feels supported and empowered throughout their journey with us.

Mid-Year Networking Event

We will be hosting opportunities throughout the year for program participants to come together. A networking event is being planned where mentees will attend with their mentor. It will be a fantastic opportunity to expand your professional network and gain new perspectives while strengthening the bond with your mentor. More details will be provided to participants of the program.

Exclusive Opportunity: Skip-Level Meetings

In addition to the regular mentorship meetings, Mentee will have the opportunity to meet with the Acting University registrar, Sarah Robinson for a “skip level meeting”. This unique experience provides mentees with the chance to gain valuable insights directly from the Acting Registrar, enhancing their understanding of organizational strategies, industry trends, and high-level decision-making.

Important things to note:

  • Mentor: Someone who guides and supports others.
Mentee: The person who receives guidance and support from a mentor.
  • Mentees are UNIFOR staff and mentors are UNIFOR staff or TMG members.
  • Participants should aim to meet in person or online at least once a month. Mentor and Mentees manage the meeting schedule and topic.
  • Resources are readily available to support your mentorship conversations.
  • Participants determine the number of meetings; we recommend once a month at minimum but it could be every 3 weeks or ad-hoc each month.
  • The program will run from December 2023 – November 2024

2023-2024 Program

We are excited that the mentoring program has doubled the number of mentees this year. We also thank the four new team members who volunteered to be a mentor this year. This is a very valuable program, and we wish all participants the best!

A Grow Resource Guide has been added here to support the first mentorship conversations.
