Writing a letter of invitation

Students/potential graduates who have guests, travelling internationally, to attend their convocation ceremony may need to submit a letter of invitation to the Canadian government (IRCC) to obtain a visitor’s visa for a family member or friend. The letter is used for immigration purposes and does not guarantee entry to Canada. This letter is not a ticket or RSVP to the convocation ceremony.

We have created a template to assist you in preparing your Letter of Invitation for IRCC. Request an educational verification letter to submit with your letter by following the steps below.

How to request a Letter of Invitation

  1. Once you have an eligible or approved graduation status in Mosaic, order a Current Educational Verification letter in Parchment to have the letter delivered electronically. Select ‘Letter of invitation to convocation’ from the ‘What type of letter is required?’ drop down menu.
  2. Write your letter of invitation using the template provided.
  3. Submit both your letter of invitation and the McMaster educational verification letter to IRCC.
