A graduate student must enrol in at least one course in all three terms in order to be fully enrolled, and for fees to charge, otherwise fee assessment will be incomplete. If a student is not taking an academic course in any term, they must still add a placeholder course as follows:
- SGS 700 – for students who pay fees on a term-by-term basis
- SGS 711 – for students who pay fees on a course costed basis
Complete details of regulations on fee assessment for graduate students can be found under the Financial Matters of the Graduate Calendar.
Don’t forget to review the Terms and Conditions of Enrolment before you begin to add courses.
Fees are subject to change. Check your student account for updates.
Fees are scheduled to be posted to students’ accounts in the first week of August. Fees are due on the 25th of the first month of the term. E.g. September 25 for the Fall term.
Tuition fees: 2024-25
Tuition fees are assessed on a term by term basis. Please note: 2024-25 fees are pending approval and are subject to change.
Note: Post-degree fees are normally $1,051.20 except for in cases where the program has a higher tuition rate defined.

Jay Treaty Fee Adjustment for Indigenous Students
McMaster University is referencing their responsibilities under the Jay Treaty of 1794 by extending domestic (Ontario) tuition fees to Indigenous students whose ancestral homelands are within the United States.
Who is eligible?
Students who meet the following definition of Indigenous and whose Indigenous homeland is in the United Status are invited to complete this application for a fee adjustment.
There are many definitions of Indigenous: For the purposes of ancestry verification on Turtle Island we define Indigenous as: “First Nation, Metis and Inuit”. We extend this to the United States (i.e., verification of identities including American Indians/Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians).
Please voluntarily self-identify as:
- First Nations (Status/Non-Status)
- Métis
- Inuit
- American Indians/Native Americans
- Alaska Natives
- Native Hawaiians
How to apply?
The Indigenous Student Services office will submit a Service Request in Mosaic to collect your supporting document and complete the identity verification process. Please contact the Sr. Advisor, Indigenous Student Services for assistance on how to apply for a fee adjustment at indigsc@mcmaster.ca.
More information about graduate domestic fees; as well as the Jay Treaty Fee Adjustment form and instructions on how to use Service Requests is available on the Registrar’s Office website.
