Cindy Chin
Cindy Chin is graduating with an Honours degree in Molecular Biology & Genetics Co-op. For her final co-op term, Cindy worked as a genetic counselling assistant in the Prenatal Diagnosis Clinic at McMaster Children’s Hospital where she helped support patients spanning Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area. As a result of her hard work, she was awarded with the 2021/2022 Faculty of Science Co-op Student of the Year Award. Cindy’s passion for contributing to the McMaster and Hamilton community is evidenced by her involvement as a Residence Orientation Representative, MSU Maroon, member of McMaster Macappella, and crisis-line volunteer for the Sexual Assault Centre Hamilton & Area (SACHA). This fall, she will be moving to New York City to pursue her Masters in Genetic Counselling at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Cindy would like to thank her family, friends, mentors, and God for their endless love and support throughout her time at McMaster.
President’s Award of Excellence in Student Leadership
Jessica Monaghan
Jessica Monaghan is a research assistant for the Advanced Research on Mental Health and Society Initiative (ARMS) and an active volunteer within the McMaster community. Jessica is a graduating BSc. (Hon.) student in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour (PNB) with a Minor in Health, Aging, and Society. Her work with ARMS included hosting the Mental Health Symposium and coordinating the Youth Engagement Presentation. She facilitated collaboration between the Proactive Wellness Study and Student E-Mental Health Study. Jessica volunteered actively with the Student Wellness Center (SWC) Peer Educators, created a networking platform for PNB Students, and led My Virtual University (MVU): an initiative connecting students during the pandemic. Jessica continues to pursue opportunities within the field of community engagement and leadership.
Jessica dedicates this award to those who gave her the courage to pursue her ideas; her mentors Dr. Young and Prof. Finnerty, her peers in MVU and SWC, and her family.

Martin Taylor
Taylor is a world-renowned researcher known for pioneering public health geography as a public health discipline. Taylor, now a Professor Emeritus at the University of Victoria in B.C., was a professor in McMaster’s former Department of Geography from 1974 to 1998. During his time at McMaster, Taylor served as the director of the Institute of Environment and Health, acting vice-president (research) and chair of geography. From 2007 to 2012, he was the president and CEO of Ocean Networks Canada. Throughout his career, Taylor has been sought out for leadership by a wide range of organizations whose purpose is to advance science. He is the author of two books and over 100 peer-reviewed publications in the field of environmental and community health.
