Writing a letter of invitation

Students/potential graduates who have guests, travelling internationally, to attend their convocation ceremony may need to submit a letter of invitation to the Canadian government (IRCC) to obtain a visitor’s visa for a family member or friend. The letter is used for immigration purposes and does not guarantee entry to Canada. This letter is not a ticket or RSVP to the convocation ceremony.

We have created a template to assist you in preparing your Letter of Invitation for IRCC.

Preparing Your Invitation Letter

  1. Write your letter of invitation using the template provided.
  2. Download your proof of Enrolment.
    • Download your “Enrolment Verification” letter and your unofficial transcript through Mosaic Student Centre.
    • Optional: If you are an undergraduate student and your status in Mosaic has been updated to “Approved to graduate” you have access to download an Approved to graduate letter through your Mosaic Student Centre. This letter will only become available when academic reviewing has been completed and cannot be expedited.
  3. Submit your letter of invitation, proof of enrolment with all supporting documents to the IRCC.
