What is a McMaster Photo ID card?
Your validated ID card identifies you as a McMaster University student. It displays your student number, name, photo, signature, bar code and magnetic strip. A validated' card is one which has a sticker for the current session affixed on the back. You will be able to use this card to obtain a variety of University services. Your card remains the property of McMaster University and if you cease to be a McMaster student, the card must be returned.
What is a validation sticker?
Your validation sticker identifies your academic classification (e.g. undergraduate, graduate), session your are registered in, full-time/ part-time status, and in some cases your faculty. The sticker also displays some of the University services available to you (e.g. Athletics & Recreation and Bookstore). Other services are available to you based on your registration status and the fees you are charged. For more details about these services please refer to Fee Payment.
A validation sticker is issued to you once the University has completed processing your registration. Stickers are normally include in your confirmation mailing and should be placed on the back of your ID card.
Why do I need a validated McMaster Photo ID card?
You need a McMaster Photo Id for the following purposes:
Identification Card: Your validated ID card identifies you as a McMaster University student and permits you access to services on campus. Your card must be presented at the Registrar's Office to make enquiries about your personal academic record. YOUR VALIDATED ID CARD IS TO BE PRESENTED AT ALL EXAMINATIONS.
Library Card: The bar code on the card will enable you to borrow materials through the McMaster Library system.
University Bookstore (Titles) Credit Card: Your card can be used as a charge card at the University Bookstore after you have completed an account application at the Bookstore.
Hospitality Services Debit Card: Your card can be used as a debit card for Hospitality Services meal plans.
Recreation Card: You can use your ID card to access the Ivor Wynne Centre recreation facilities. In addition, your ID card entitles you to the discounted McMaster student rate for admission to varsity sports competitions and for the purchase of additional services.
OSAP Loans: You must present your validated ID card to pick up your student loan (OSAP).
How do I get my McMaster Photo ID card?
Newly admitted students will receive a new student form with their registration package. This form should be completed, have a passport photo attached, be signed in black ink and returned with your registration forms. Once you have received academic and financial approval of your registration, your ID card will be mailed to you along with your confirmation letter and validation sticker.
What if my ID card is lost or stolen?
If your card is lost or stolen report it immediately by phone or in person to the Office of the Registrar or the MAC Express Centre to have the card invalidated. To have a replacement ID card issued you must personally visit either the Office of the Registrar or the MAC Express Centre. A $30.00 fee is charged for replacement of the ID card.
If you have reported your ID card lost or stolen and find your card prior to receiving a replacement, you must personally visit either the Office of the Registrar or MAC Express Centre to present your card and have it reinstated. If you have a Titles Bookstore account or a Hospitality Services meal plan you will also have to visit the MAC Express Centre or Titles to have your accounts reactivated.
