Deferred Examination Procedures
If a student is ill and does not write an examination in a course, they must submit a McMaster University Medical Form (http:/registrar.mcmaster.ca/registered/forms.html), completed by a physician, to their Associate Dean’s Office within five working days of the examination date.
- The student is responsible for requesting, through their Faculty, a deferred examination in a course.
- To be eligible for a deferred examination, a student must have been
• registered in the class for which the examination is to be written and
• granted a deferred examination by his/her Faculty Reviewing Committee - A deferred examination privilege in any given course may be granted only once and the deferred examination must be written in the next examination session **. Students who do not write or fail a deferred examination must repeat the course or substitute an approved equivalent, provided they are allowed to continue in their program.
- Deferred examinations cover the same work and will be the same length as the final examination they replace.
- The Office of the Registrar makes all the arrangements including the scheduling of deferred examinations. An individual deferred examination schedule will be posted to the student's MUGSI account, personal examination schedule, approximately two weeks prior to the examination session. The student will also receive an email informing them that a personal exam timetable has now been created.
- Students are responsible for ensuring that their contact email address is up to date on MUGSI.
- Deferred examinations are scheduled to be written at McMaster University.
Students wanting to write at a centre other than McMaster must submit a Deferred Examination Form (http:/registrar.mcmaster.ca/registered/forms.html) at least 15 working days prior to the start of the examination session. Please note the conditions on page two of the form before requesting to write at an approved outside centre.
** Deferreds granted from the December examination session will be written during reading week
(Feb. 19-22)
