Graduation: student checklist

You are well on your way to getting your diploma! Follow the steps outlined here to graduate.

Step 1: Check your graduation status in Mosaic

Confirm your graduation status in Mosaic’s Student Center by going to My Academics > View my Graduation Status.
Until final grades and academic standing are reviewed, your status will read ‘Eligible’. For questions regarding your status, please contact your Faculty office.
With in-person Spring 2020 convocation ceremonies being deferred to a later date, there is no need for you to fill out the Graduation Information Centre (GIC) at this time.
If you are a graduate student, visit completing your degree for more information.

More on graduation status

Your graduation status is determined by current course enrolment, and how your courses satisfy degree requirements as stated in your Advisement Report. If you intend to graduate, it is important to ensure your Advisement Report confirms that all requirements are satisfied.

To access your Advisement Report: Mosaic > Student Center > My Academics drop down menu > Academic Requirements.

If you’re not sure, confirm course requirements with your Advisement Report Student Center > My Academics > Academic Requirements in Mosaic or contact your Faculty Academic Advisor.

Your graduation status can be viewed in Mosaic > Student Center > View my Graduation Status.

Graduation Status will be updated by your Faculty/Program office as follows:

Status	Description
Applied	Your application for graduation has been submitted to your Faculty/Program Office for review.
Eligible	Your eligibility to graduate will be reviewed by your Faculty/Program office, upon receipt of final grades.
Approved	Faculty review is complete and you have been approved to graduate.
Pending	Your graduation status is pending given course work is outstanding and/or incomplete (e.g. transcript for course(s) completed on letter of permission, deferred exam(s).
Approved for spring	You have been approved for graduation at the May/June Convocation. This status follows a Pending review when course work was outstanding.
Approved for fall	You have been approved for graduation at the November Convocation. This status follows a Pending review when course work was outstanding.
Ineligible	Your Faculty/Program office has determined you are not being reviewed for graduation.
Withdrawn	Your Faculty/Program office has determined you are no longer eligible to be reviewed for graduation.
Denied	You do not qualify to graduate. Please contact your Program/Faculty office for assistance.

Step 2: Check your name in Mosaic

Your digital diploma and printed diploma use the name McMaster has on record.
Check your Primary Name in Mosaic (Student Center > Personal Information > Names > Primary Name).
Please note: the name on your diploma will not include the honorific shown on Mosaic (Mr., Ms., etc.).
If your Primary Name is incorrect on Mosaic, fill out the Name Change form. Submit both the completed form and a copy of your government-issued ID showing your correct name through our secure MacDrive link.
The deadline to submit a Name Change request is April 30, 2020.

Step 3: Apply for a minor or certificate

Minor – You can apply for your minor in the online Minor/Certificate Application Centre. For more information about minors please see the Undergraduate Calendar. Deadline to apply for a minor: May 1, 2020
McMaster Mohawk Affiliated Certificate – Faculty of Social Sciences – If you have completed the requirements for the McMaster Mohawk Affiliated Certificate and are preparing to graduate, you can apply in the Minor/Certificate Application Centre by the above deadline.

Step 4: Check your student account to ensure all fees have been paid

Visit Mosaic to check your student account (Finances > Account Inquiry)
If you have any questions regarding your student account, contact us.
Upon graduation, your diploma will not be released until all outstanding fees have been cleared.

Step 5: Get ready to graduate!

Submit your short “we did it” video clip for the Class of 2020 virtual celebration.
We will update you via your @mcmaster.ca email address and this website with more information regarding the virtual celebration and deferred in-person ceremony details.

Graduation Status

Determined by current course enrolment and how your courses satisfy degree requirements, as stated in your Advisement Report. Make sure your Advisement Report confirms that all requirements are satisfied.

Minor

You can apply for your minor in the online Minor/Certificate Application Centre. Deadline to apply is May 1, 2020.

What is the difference between graduation and convocation?

Graduation means you’ve met your degree requirements and have been approved by Senate to graduate. Convocation is the ceremony where the Chancellor confers your degree.
