The Centre for Student Development is a resource for all McMaster Students. It offers services in several main areas: personal counselling, academic skills (including writing skills and English as a Second Language), services for students with disabilities (including the ATLAS program for students with Learning Disabilities), leadership training, and services for international students (ISS) (including advising, student exchanges, work/study abroad programs). Students with disabilities are strongly encouraged to contact our office as early as possible in the year, before classes start in September, to allow ample time to arrange for appropriate accommodations. CSD offers a variety of volunteer opportunities through the Peer Helper Program whereby Peers are trained and supervised by professional staff to assist students with academic, disability, personal and career needs and goals. Students with disabilities are strongly encouraged to contact our office as early as possible in the year, before classes start in September, to allow ample time to arrange for appropriate accommodations.
In 2007-08, CSD will be launching the student activity record (the official name is to be determined), to provide students with a tool to document and reflect upon their various extra-curricular and co-curricular activities and then, upon verification, request and receive a McMaster recognized experiential record of those activities. The program was developed to acknowledge the valuable out-of-the-classroom learning and experience that takes place during a student’s university career.

The campus Chaplaincy Centre operates independently of other university offices and offers a wide range of services to the McMaster community, including:

The McMaster Students Union has two main focuses which include political representation and enhancing student life. Undergraduate students at McMaster University, taking a full course load, are members of the MSU. In addition to political representation at McMaster, locally, provincially and federally, the MSU offers more than 25 services and businesses and employs more than 350 students per year.

For seventy-five years, Titles, McMaster University Bookstore, has been committed to serving the McMaster community. A student's source for textbooks, the bookstore also provides a wide range of services and products such as clothing, giftware, computers, stationery, a large selection of general interest books as well as housing a full service post office. Titles also provides over $500,000 a year to the campus community, enhancing student services, providing funding for student groups and contributing to the quality of student life on campus.

University Technology Services (UTS)

University Technology Services (UTS) offers a variety of services to McMaster students. The services start with the activation of your MACID account and MAC ID enabled services. Your MAC ID provides authenticated access to a range of technology services including Email, MUGSI, MacConnect, Student Computing Labs, Fee for Service Printing (in the labs), WebCT, Virtual Private Networking (VPN).
You must follow the two steps below:
- To activate your MAC ID please go to https://adweb.cis.mcmaster.ca/cis/ahtml/login.htm and click on the link “Activate your MAC ID” located in the menu on the left hand side. You will accept Terms and Conditions and create your MAC ID password through this process.
- To enable your MAC ID services you must have activated your MAC ID in the step listed above, you must also have registered for a course (or courses) and also completed a payment agreement. Once you have done this, the next day you may then enable your MAC ID services. Please go to https://adweb.cis.mcmaster.ca/cis/ahtml/login.htm and click on the “MUGSI” link located in the menu on the left hand side. You must use your MAC ID and password that was activated in Step 1 to log into MUGSI. Once logged on, please click on the link “Enable MAC ID services”. Once completed, your McMaster email account will be ready to be used by the next business day. Additionally, you will need your MAC ID and password for every MAC ID enabled service.
Each student in residence also has a data and phone connection supported through MacOnline (www.mcmaster.ca/maconline) and many student related areas on campus have wireless access (www.mcmaster.ca/uts/network/wireless).
