Listener or Auditor: Non-credit Enrolment

Listener

Interested in taking university courses at McMaster, but not for credit?  A listener attends all classes, but does not complete assignments or tests – no grade is assigned or credit earned.

Some students have eased their way into degree study with this option, subsequently applying for admission and enrolling in further courses for credit.

  • Please note not all courses are available to Listeners.
  • The Listener Form can be completed and faxed (905-527-1105) or uploaded to a secure McMaster drive.
  • Submitting an application does not guarantee enrolment in a course.
  • Please see Student Accounts  for any applicable fees.

For more information please contact the Office of the Registrar.

Auditor

If you are currently enrolled at McMaster in a degree program and want to take a course, but not receive credit, you may request permission to audit the course.

You must satisfy the prerequisites for the course, register and pay applicable fees, but will not be required to complete assignments nor write the final examinations – no credit will be earned.  Please note: you will not be permitted to enrol  in the course after drop and add to receive course credit.

For questions, please visit your Faculty Office for assistance.
